  Today in America, Black women are overly exposed to toxins and harsh chemicals in everyday products that we love from beauty products, haircare products, and personal care products. Black women buy and use more personal care products than other demographic groups. This toxic exposure is of particular concern to Black women because they purchase and use more beauty products per capita than any other demographic—spending more than $7.5 billion on beauty products a year and nine times more on hair products than the average consumer (Campaign for Safe Cosmetics).The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics is tackling the environmental injustice of Black beauty to reduce Black women and girls’ exposure to unsafe ingredients in beauty and personal care products, the Non-Toxic Black Beauty Project set out to achieve the following:Raise public awareness about the presence of hazardous chemicals in Black beauty products to increase consumer demand for safer products.Provide options for non-toxic beauty products made by Black-owned beauty brandsso Black women can shop confidently knowing the beauty and personal care products they purchase are free of harsh chemicals.Grow the safe Black beauty industry by elevating and increasing consumer demand for companies making safer beauty and personal care products for Black women.Here is a list of Black-owned beauty brands to follow that inspire more diversity of healthy, holistic, and empowering Black women to shop in the confidence of owning their authentic beauty.54 ThronesBlack Girl SunscreenEADEMJACQ'S KAIKEThe Lip Bar Inc.Mary Louise Cosmetics Meraki Hair Wellness, Incpholk beautyRebundleSienna Naturals
